Girls should be able to see engineering and motorsport as places where their ideas, skills and ambitions belong.
Why it matters
Engineering shapes almost every part of modern life, and stronger teams benefit from different experiences and ways of thinking. Yet women remain significantly underrepresented. EngineeringUK’s 2025 workforce update reported that women made up 16.9% of UK engineering and technology occupations, compared with 56.2% across other occupations. Girls on Track UK reports that around 90% of the motorsport workforce is male.

These figures are not a reflection of girls’ ability. They highlight why early encouragement, visible role models, practical experience and welcoming opportunities matter. Children need to see that there is no single type of engineer—and no single route into motorsport.
